top wrestlers and coaches 9 Questions. This month, we speak with
Canadian World and Olympic Champion Daniel Igali.
Q.
What is your favorite move?
A. The single leg take down or the high crotch.
Q.
What advice would you give to young wrestlers?
A. Train hard, sleep well, drink lots of water, eat well and wrestle
like hell.
Q.
You've won the Nationals, Worlds and Olympics...who was your toughest
match?
A. My toughest match ever was at the World Cup in Spokane in
1999 against Lincoln McIlravy of the United States. (Daniel lost
3-2 in overtime.)
Q.
What was the most exciting moment in your wrestling career?
A. Winning the World Championships in 1999 - the first Canadian
man to do so ever. (He hammered USA’s Lincoln McIlravy winning
the gold medal: score 3-2. McIlravy later said Daniel was the
best “athlete” he had ever wrestled)
Q.
You are running for MLA in the upcoming BC provincial election.
Why?
A. I feel public life is honorable, I feel politics needs to reach
the greater number of people in a positive way. I hope, through
politics, I can change my backyard, if not the world.
Q.
You have been all over the world as a representative of Canada.
Where is the coolest place you have been?
A. The coolest place I have been to is the Punjab province of
India.
Q.
What is your favorite movie?
A. Good Will Hunting
Q.
Weren’t you involved in bringing the 2010 Winter Olympics
to Vancouver?
A. I was on the Board of Directors that brought
the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games to Canada.
Q.
If there were an Igali video game what would be the "superpower"?
A. The “Igali Cradle"
